Where DIOON comes from: a cycad, not a coinage

Epoekie® is a way of living. DIOON is a plant.

Figure 1: the leaf of the plant the name belongs to. It does not win by being fast; it wins by outlasting — which is exactly what AICENT-013 turns into a measurable mechanism.

The organism the name belongs to

Dioon Lindl. is a real genus: family Zamiaceae, order Cycadales, division gymnosperm. It is native to Central America — Mexico, Honduras and neighbouring ranges — and it is one of the largest-bodied genera among the cycads. Named species include Dioon edule, Dioon spinulosum, Dioon stevensonii and Dioon mejiae.

And it carries the hardest credential of any name in this stack: every species of Dioon is listed in CITES Appendix II, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. That means the name is not ours, not coined, and not a metaphor — it is a taxon that an international convention has already recognised by name. As this series said in its opening entry, a checkable name is worth more than a good-sounding one. This is the strongest instance we have.

What the layer does with it

AICENT-013 is the Timing Layer, and in the public v1.3.0 text the biology is not decoration — it is the mechanism. The document has DIOON enforce "the Cycad-Logic — waiting for the precise micro-moment of grid silence before shunting torque to the GTIOT® limbs," and it treats "Time as a Biological Nutrient." The same section ends with the sentence that states the whole posture: "to rush is to be a Ghost; to wait is to be Radiant."

That is what a cycad does.

AICENT-013 · the timing gate legacy scheduler: every jitter gets an answer each spike is a wasted action — how a Ghost lives the cycad logic: wait for one window of silence 12ns one authorised action the specification: "to rush is to be a Ghost; to wait is to be Radiant."
Figure 2: the same noise, two ways to live. Above, every spike gets an answer. Below, one action is authorised inside a single 12ns window of silence. Patience is therefore not an attitude; it is a gate.
It does not win by being fast. It survives by outlasting conditions that kill faster things, and it treats the passage of time as the resource rather than the enemy. Our timing layer is named after the organism that already solved the problem.

The one number we refuse to misattribute

Cycads are among the oldest living gymnosperm lineages, with origins commonly traced to roughly 300 million years ago. That number is often attached to the genus. It should not be: three hundred million years belongs to the cycad lineage as a whole, while the genus Dioon itself diverged far later, and its own fossil record is correspondingly younger.

We keep the number attached to the object it actually describes. This is the same discipline we applied to Epoekie®'s spelling: if a figure does not belong to the thing you are pointing at, say so on the page, because the person who checks will find it in ten minutes and the cost of being wrong is the whole argument.

The expansion, and which one is primary

D-I-O-O-N has also been expanded as Distributed Intelligence Organic Optimization Network. That is a technical expansion we wrote ourselves; it says nothing whatsoever about the plant, and it appeared under an earlier revision of the specification.

So we rank them, and we publish the ranking: the primary reading is the genus, because a taxon with a convention listing behind it is worth more as an identity than an acronym we assembled in an afternoon. The backronym stays as a mnemonic, and it is labelled as one.

Why patience has to be a mechanism, not a mood

Waiting is cheap to praise and hard to build, so we turned it into a measurable quantity: the Patience Index (PI). AICENT-014 then multiplies it — Unified Radiance = PI × CSI, patience times the Cognitive Swarm Index from AICENT-006. A name that only means a virtue is decoration. A name that names an index can be argued with, which is the only kind of name worth having.

Of the names in this series, this is the only one with a type specimen behind it. Next in the numbering is AICENT-014 — the only name in the stack assembled from its own parts rather than borrowed from outside.
